THE CHAMPIONS
For 3 days, Quest Taekwondo recently had the honor of hosting two World Champions: Mr. Jean Pierre Sabido and Mr. Glenn Lava. They shared with us a wealth of knowledge and experience in the art of poomsae competition.
Together with Mr. Ernesto Guzman Jr., Mr. Sabido and Mr. Lava are part of the Philippine National Poomsae Team trio. Each athlete hails from one of the three major regions of the Philippines: Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, thus earning them the namesake of “Team LuzViMin.” Together, they have won the World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships 3 times and were Major Awardees at the Philippine Sportswriters Association last February.
Along with their team achievements, these athletes have won multiple individual awards in different categories.
When they’re not competing, Team LuzViMin athletes teach and coach other aspiring athletes! Mr. Glenn Lava is the coach and founder of STAR Taekwondo Martial Arts in Cebu, Philippines. Mr. Sabido coaches at De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde / De La Salle University in Manila, Philippines. It’s no wonder that these fine coaches looked to be “at home” teaching and inspiring our Quest students last week!
THE HONOR
Having such decorated and experienced athletes/coaches at Quest was an honor for us. Sharing their expertise in poomsae was a valuable and memorable learning experience for everyone who participated.

A few of our students also had the privilege of having a one-to-one or one-to-two session with our honored guests. It’s no doubt that these students have taken with them valuable insights as to how to perfect their Taekwondo forms.

THE SUPERSTAR SHOT
We realize that Mr. Sabido and Mr. Lava are “celebrities of Taekwondo,” in their own right. So, it would be fitting to say that solo photo opportunities with them are pretty much in par with getting your picture taken with a superstar.
THE GROUPIES
Finally, we admit that after meeting the champions, we’ve become fans. We can’t wait to hear more of their great accomplishments in the world of Taekwondo and hope that they’ll be able to come visit us again!
