Most of you don’t know this young man. He’s quiet and unassuming and you would never guess that he can be explosive and fierce in the ring because of his meek demeanor. Our Black Belt of the month is Tyler Tabil, a multiple medalist who carries the honor of being a member of Team USA.

Tyler’s most recent accomplishments include: 2017 Bronze Medalist -53 kg cadet black belt in the Pan American Cadet Championships 2018 USAT All-American Athlete • 2018 Nevada State Champion-59kg Junior Blackbelt.

“I am 15 years old, and i started Taekwondo when I was about 4 or 5.”

“The people I admire most would be my parents because they seem to have the hardest jobs.”

“Most martial artists have a favorite move. My favorite would be the cut kick. I like it for no particular reason, but it happens to be my automatic go-to-move.”

“My most unforgettable moment, one that I would consider a peak moment  would probably be the first time I ever fought in a tournament – I felt unstoppable that day!”

“A simple advice I would give a student : REMEMBER ALL THE POOMSAE.”

“I don’t really do anything outside of Taekwondo, but I think my grades in school are somewhat impressive. Oh… I also do Civil Air Patrol.”

“If I’m not doing taekwondo, I am either sleeping, eating, watching anime, or reading manga/comic books. And if I were a fictional character, I would be Jotaro Kujo from Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, so I can mess with people and not get caught via Star Platinum”

“Most people don’t know that … “I am actually a funny guy.

“If my friends and family would describe me, they would use the following adjectives: Annoying, tired, funny, stressful, and monotone.”

I would really want to have patience and practice forgiveness – because I feel like I need more work on those.

If there is one famous person, living or historical that you can spend the whole day with, who would that be and what would you talk about? — “I would talk to JFK the day before he died, and tell him to duck down or invest in better security. Maybe tell him to buy a limousine with a roof.”

Most of your contemporaries listen to a particular artist or music. Do you have your own favorites and why do  you like them? —  ” Probably some emo band like My Chemical Romance or some Japanese anime opening, or a rap artist like Childish Gambino because I don’t listen to a lot of trendy music”

Have you already thought about what profession you see yourself in years from now? . — “I recently thought of becoming a marine biologist because my favorite anime character is a marine biologist.

What words of wisdom can you share with other young men your age? — “There is no greater feeling than being stress and anxiety free!”

Lastly, tell us about your most important wish at this moment. Maybe someone who’s reading this can make your wish come true… — “I wish for omnipotence, supreme sentience, power over the fundamental forces, the ability to manipulate matter and reality on any scale mainly atomic and universal, power over time, and a pet cat or monitor lizard.”

I believe we can help with the pet cat or the monitor lizard but that first part… Tyler can make come true on his own in the cyber world! In so many ways, his wishes sum up to being #1 by having the ability to conquer the impossible. The way Tyler is climbing the ladder of the Taekwondo ranks, this is feasible, probable and possible, especially since his favorite verse is: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” -Phillippians 4:13.
