Quest’s Black Belt of the month is — Sara Ambite. One of the most memorable girls for us as she has been a part of the Quest family even before she started taekwondo… the little girl who’d come to the office and ask: “You got chips?

Now a 2nd Dan Black Belt, she is a feisty, yet charming young lady who loves to help instruct the younger kids when she’s assisting with the classes. Sara loves to be here at the dojang, sometimes spending over 5 hours assisting and taking classes herself. She is an inspiration to her juniors, and even parents love her energy and enthusiasm.

“I am 10 years old right now and I started taekwondo when I was 4 years old.”

What I like about taekwondo is that I can be with my friends and I can help the instructors teaching the class. My favorite form is ‘Koryo’ because I like the gracefulness of the form. It is an awesome form to learn and there are a lot of movements.

Tell us about a peak moment in taekwondo, one that you are especially proud of and will never forget.  When I got my first black belt I was really proud of myself and I will never forget it. Other memorable moments are when I medaled in tournaments”

What advice would you give a white belt student who wants to be a black belt someday?“I will tell them that they need to be focused and disciplined.

Other than being good in taekwondo, what other accomplishments would you like to share with us?  At my school we took first place in soccer in the 2017 LA Galaxy Cup Tournament. And I can also ski.”

Do you have a favorite school subject and what do you like about it?  “My favorite school subject is math because although it is hard, it becomes fun once you figure it out and learn it.”

Sara, can you tell us what your three favorite things are   “My favorite things are taekwondo, music and traveling around the world with my family.”

Next, what are your pet peeves…things you just dislike? I don’t like people talking about other people, it is very annoying and disrespectful.”

If you were a fictional character who or what would you be and why that character?  “I would like to be Harry Potter because he is a great wizard and he helps people.”

Please finish this sentence: “Most people don’t know that … . I can speak other languages like Spanish and Dutch.”

If your friends and family were to describe you, what adjectives would they use? — “My friends would say that I’m nice, sweet and a great friend and my family would say that I’m friendly, funny and kind.”

Being a Black Belt, you already have virtues others admire. Would there be some other virtue you would like to acquire, and why? “I wish I had more patience, and that’s probably the reason why I talk fast because of lack of patience.”

If there is one famous person (living or historical) whom you could spend the whole day with, who would that be and what would you talk about?  I’d like to spend that day with Ronaldo because he is a great soccer player and I can learn how to be better at soccer and improve on my soccer skills.”

Have you already thought about what you want to be when you’re all grown up? “I really have thought of being a famous taekwondo person in both poomsae and sparring.”

Lastly, tell us about your most important wish at this moment. Maybe someone who’s reading this (like Mom and Dad) can make that come true for you. To become a master at taekwondo is my wish and thanks to my parents who are very supportive, kind and generous, I can go to taekwondo whenever I want.

There is no question that this young lady is in love with taekwondo and has taekwondo as part of her long-term plan. Right now, she fills up her afternoons as a Black Belt teaching assistant, still helping out even with a broken finger that she got from soccer, not from taekwondo. With her vibrant, effusive personality and charm whether it be in taekwondo or soccer, Sara will always stand out as an outstanding athlete. And… I always look forward to her still asking: “Do you have chips?”

Don’t forget to check in next month as we interview another outstanding Black Belt. If you’re in the South Bay area, swing by Quest Taekwondo and watch these amazing athletes train. We have every taekwondo and fitness program to suit every age group and physical profile.
