The spirit of a competitor cannot be gauged by age, height or size, and our July Black Belt of the Month, Jenicole Enage, is a perfect example of why we should not measure an athlete’s potential based on the angelic smile beaming from the face of a child. This fun-loving girl enjoys life on and off the mat and even under water!  — And her spunk will make a believer out of you, that there is nothing in this world that cannot be overcome.

How old are you now and at what age did you start taekwondo?  —  “I am 12 years old and I started Taekwondo when I was 7 years old.”

Outside of taekwondo, who are your heroes and why do you admire them?  —  My heroes are my Mom and Dad because they always take care of me and my siblings, and they sacrifice their time to earn money for our family.”

And she has garnered other gold medals after that!

What advice would you give a white belt student who wants to be a black belt someday? An advice I would give to a white belt is to: ‘Never give up and always put your best effort into what you do even if it gets challenging’.”

I also took second place in my first piano recital.”

Which school subjects do you like best and what do you like about them?  —  “My favorite subjects in school are social studies and math because in social studies, I like learning about the earth’s history and different events that happened before like the Pelopponesian War. If you were a fictional character who or what would you be and why that character? — “I would be Mulan because she is smart, brave, and is willing to take risks to protect her family.”

Please finish this sentence: “Most people don’t know that IUsed to draw on my face with markers with my sister when I was a toddler.”

If your friends and family were to describe you, what 5 adjectives would they use? “That I am Intelligent, Athletic, an Achiever, Funny, and Responsible.”

Being a Black Belt, you already have virtues others admire, but would there be some other virtue you would like to acquire, and why?  — One virtue I would like to acquire is being kind because I like helping others whether it is in TKD or in school.”

If there is one famous person  (alive or historical) you could spend the whole day with, who would it be, and what would you talk about?  —   “I would spend a day with Stan Lee because I would like to talk about how he got the idea of all the famous superheroes and if he can give me tips on my drawing and writing skills.”

And maybe Stan Lee will create the Superhero “TKD Girl” based on Jenicole!

Most of your contemporaries listen to a particular artist or music. Do you have your own favorites and why do you like them? — “I don’t really have a favorite artist, but I do like summer songs and the 80’s music.”

Have you already thought about what you would want to be when you grow up? Our readers would also want to know.  — “I would like to become a chemist when I grow up because I would like to experiment and discover new chemicals and I would always be mixing different things to see what would happen.”

What words of wisdom can you share with other kids your age? . — “Some words of wisdom would be, “Always follow your heart and choose kindness over disgust.”
